Dennis Hopper Self Portrait.mov

Self-Portrait: Dennis Hopper is the pilot of a series I developed with Dennis. We met in Los Angeles after an opening of my productions, the Robert Wilson Video Portraits, and he expressed a desire to do portraits in video as well. He had strong ideas about extending his vérité photographic style into motion – the results would have been as groundbreaking as Bob Wilson’s. We completed one piece, an autobiography produced in his home studio. In it Dennis recites the Rudyard Kipling poem, If, and it gives deep insight into how Dennis saw himself.

How can I find a really good tattoo artist that does portraits in my area?

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

I live near Corpus Christi, TX. I am looking to get a really nice portrait tattoo of my Father who passed in Feb.. I know they are hard to do so I want the best in the area. Does anyone know a good website, forum or anything where I can do some research? I have been calling and visiting local shops but they all claim to be good at portraits. I don’t want to just trust their words for it and end up with something I will regret the rest of my life.
Help please!
Beth

At our studio, we do not SPECIALIZE in portraits so we refer them out. That’s all there is to it for us. We only let our clients go to someone who does them almost exclusively.

It is one thing to see a decent looking portrait in a portfolio, but if you cannot see a reference photo, you have no idea if the artist has captured that person well. Always see both a reference photo and the tattoo after picture. Don’t rely on drawn designs.

Another tip is to see how well they do celebrity portraits – faces you know and see all the time – I call it the Elvis test. Anyone who has done a lot of portraits have likely been asked for an Elvis – trust me, I have seen a lot of poor quality Elvi out there! (haha).

Look at the work of some of the great portrait artists like Nikko Hurtado, Bob Tyrrell, Aaron Bell, Anil Gupta (there are many more but these are who come to mind at the moment.)

If the work doesn’t measure up – keep looking.

How do you ACHIEve realistic color and noncolor portraits on paper, can you do it with regular colors?

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Ann kullberg and others i’ve seen create awesome color penicl portraits that look real. I’ve tried learning frm them but my colors don’t seem to look good, they look too bright or something. Is it all about technique or do you actually need special paper and special pencils.. ?

She’s promoting prismacolor pencils, and stonehenge paper.

What is the best digital camera for self portraits?

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

I am looking to purhcase a digital camera so I can specfically take self portraits. I know many cameras offer timers but my photos will be heavily posed and such so I need to have the maximum amount of control from a distance.

I will not be purchasing a $500 camera so please keep a low budget in mind or at least bracket the information like under $200 or under $300 so I can understand the price points and what the additional price has to offer. I am expecting a camera at no less than 5 mp but at such a low budget I am not expecting a whole lot else….

The photos will range from studio photos, head shots, candids and such.

Is a digital SLR the only way to go or can this be done with a cheap digital point and shoot? Are there any with remote options?

If you have any technical tips for self portraiture please give them.
I am looking for specific makes and models of cameras that have remote capabilitiy.

10 seconds is not enough time- I need to have actual control of when teh photo is taken- not just a timing mechanism.

I have already looked around to find information about good self portraiture cameras but all the sights list cameras with too simplisitc timers and don’t give any useful information.

I have a pentax SLR film camera so I already know how to run manual settings. I am specifically looking for digital cameras that can be used from a distance.

I don’t fully understand how it works, but check out the Canon Powershot SD430, which has WiFi. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=8612&A=details&Q=&sku=418128&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

I saw somewhere that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 has a remote control, but if you were going to spend that kind of money, you could choose from any number of DSLR’s that seem to all have remote control capabilities.

I also read that the Panasonic DMC-FZ50 has a remote control, but can not confirm this. Same for the Olympus Evolt series.

Does anyone know if Portraits for you limited have gone bust?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I had some photographs done by Portraits for you through Emma’s diary images and they were great. So my mother-in-law decided to get them back for a family portrait for my husbands 30th birthday. My MIL paid £150 by credit card and we have had trouble ever since trying to get hold of them. The address is in Grimsby.
I have checked companies house and know the registered address, but I need a phone number – can anyone help?

The company is still active. Their registered address is

What is the best camera for self portraits?

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

I love taking pictures of everything around me, especially the professional ones. What camera is the best for this? I also like taking professional self portraits. Assist me.
There is no budget, i would really appreciate a variety of camera’s though.

Get a Nikon D3X-around $8,000 a pro, or a Nikon D90-$800 a semi-pro, Nikon D5000 -$500 an entry-level or a point and shoot camera under $200… (i’m a Nikon fan…) but really the best camera is already in your hands… even a cellphone w/ camera could be a great camera… it really depends on the eye of the photographer, the lighting, the subject and your perspective…
I also think that you are a newbie in photography, try to play with your camera first… try manual setting, programmed… not the preset functions/ auto… try searching about aperture, shutter, iso, focal lengths, etc… there’s a lot of free tutorial on photography…just ask mr. google… then go for a DSLR camera to have a much better control of your photos… depending on your budget…
hope this helps…
email me if you still need some advice/ assistance….
